1020 Octantis is a star among those star systems visible from Earth in the constellation of Octans. 1020 Octantis was greatly distant from Federation space when considered by Jean-Luc Picard, Ileen Maisel and Gohod Clif as part of a comparison of the farthest each Starfleet captain had journeyed beyond the explored Federation. Picard's visit to 1020 Octantis was twelve parsecs less distant than winner Clif's furthest voyage, to AX Arae. (TNG novel: Intellivore)
- The star's name has the notation of a Flamsteed designated star, with a numeral and the constellation's genitive name. However, no stars with this high a numeral have been so named in "real life".
