- Within the Bashir 62 holoprogram, Vic Fontaine, Dean Martin, and Frank Sinatra lose $15,000 in a blackjack game at the Sands in Las Vegas in which Vic is playing.[3]
- Manufacture of the Edsel, a Ford Motor Company vehicle, begins.[4]
- January
- The two surviving members of the Vulcan exploration team which crash-landed at Carbon Creek, Pennsylvania are rescued. Before leaving Earth, a new piece of technology is secretly introduced by them: Velcro.[5]
- 22 January
- By this date Mestral had filled notebooks and his scanner with information about Human cultures, and was packing to leave Carbon Creek the day after. Maggie had been interested in becoming intimate with Mestral. While Mestral was packing, he is attacked by the Certoss Jaecz.[6]
- 29 July
- Knowing he would be unable to stop the Certoss agents on his own, Mestral visits Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. The installation operated by the US-American government is the operations center of Project Blue Book, headed by Major James Wainwright and Staff Sergeant Allison Marshall.[6]
