Decades: 1940s - 1950s - 1960s - 1970s - 1980s - 1990s - 2000s
(stardates from 1970.0 to 1979 or reference stardates -1/70 to -1/79)
Centuries: 19th century - 20th century - 21st century

The 1970s was, on Earth's calendar, the eighth decade of the 20th century. Although this was a time period before Human formulation of stardates, in some systems this era simply lasts from stardates 1970.0 to 1979.[1] The reference stardate system has this decade fall from stardates -1/70 to -1/79.[2]

Years[]

Events of unspecified dates[]

  • The Varro construct a gigantic ship to explore space. Over the next four hundred years, this vessel becomes a generational ship, and its inhabitants become extremely xenophobic.[3]
  • Humans begin to realize that Earth's supply of fossil fuel is nearing depletion; however, no drastic changes are made towards ushering in a substitute fuel source.[4]
  • Mankind had been sending and listening for radio messages from other worlds since this time.[5]
