- Rajiv Gandhi, the former Prime Minister of India, was assassinated. Gary Seven and Roberta Lincoln suspected that Khan Noonien Singh may have been responsible.[2]

- The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics dissolves into a number of independent republics and federations. With this, the KGB ceases to exist.[4]
