- The five-year-old James T. Kirk leaves his home of Riverside, Iowa for the first time. It is also the first time he uses the transporter. Both events are due to his paternal grandfather Tiberius Kirk dying.[1]
- The Kirk family visit the Starfleet War Memorial to celebrate Federation Day, where they meet an elderly Charles Tucker III.[2]
- James T. Kirk and his brother Sam spend a month at their grandparents' house in Vermont.[3]
- Montgomery Scott disproves the Perera Theory regarding the detonation of photon torpedoes after he linked seven field generators together to simulate the multiship field system used by the Klingons. His experiment becomes known as the Aberdeen Solution and is printed in The Encyclopedia of Engineering Development and Design.[4]
