- Starfleet loses contact with the probe Friendship 1.[1]
- Jacob Varis of Arcturus is elected as the eighteenth President of the United Federation of Planets, succeeding Samuel Solomon Qasr of Earth.[2]
- Hikaru Sulu and his family move to Ishikawa on the planet Ganjitsu.[3]
- The Albino raids the biology lab of Hikaru Sulu's mother on Ganjitsu, but is thwarted when young Hikaru manages to fry the databanks. The Albino bombards the site from orbit out of frustration, but Sulu's family manage to escape.[4]
- Sarek is awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.[5]
- USS Excalibur is built.[6]
- According to one account the planet Mantilles is made as the 25th Federation member.[7]
- An attack on the Sarek family led to genuine fears that Vulcan would become a closed planet once more. The situation was successfully resolved despite the warning of the fears of outsiders with the power of the Vulcan opposition party waning thus not leading to Vulcan closing off itself to other worlds.[8]
- The Federation and the Klingon Empire signs the Seldonis IV Convention regarding the treatment of prisoners of war.[9]
- One early Okinawa-class vessel, the USS Ventura, is in service by this year.[10]
- The Federation starship USS King Richard encounters several Klingon scout ships operating in the vicinity of Pakheth in violation of the treaty between the Empire and the Federation, and proceeds to engage them.[11]
