A-317 was a small, warp powered Starfleet cadet ship in service to Starfleet Academy during the 2260s decade of the Kelvin timeline.

Service history and disposition[]

In 2261 , A-317 took part in the Academy Centennial Games. A-317 was piloted by the Academy's cadet team and departed from a hangar at Starbase 1. (SA - Starfleet Academy comic: "Issue 3")

Slayton located

A-317 alongside the NX-class Slayton.

One leg of the competition involved landing the ship on planetoid GP-575 in a system near Sol so that the crew could scan and analyze the planetoid's atmosphere. Afterward, as the cadets began the scavenger hunt portion of the event, they found themselves in last place. To increase their velocity, the ship performed a gravimetric slingshot around a temporal anomaly along the edge of system Wagner-219. Although A-317 was snared by the anomaly, it discovered the long-lost United Earth Starfleet starship Slayton, marooned there since 2159. (SA - Starfleet Academy comic: "Issue 4")

In order to escape, A-317's warp core was set to auto destruct. A reconfiguration of Slayton's shields formed a "sail" to traverse the blast wave out of the anomaly, saving the lives of both crews. (SA - Starfleet Academy comic: "Issue 5")
