"A Private Anecdote" is the Grand Prize-winning short story in Pocket Books' first Strange New Worlds contest. This TOS story featured Christopher Pike and appeared in the anthology Strange New Worlds I in July 1998.

Summary[]

Fleet Captain Christopher Pike, crippled and confined to Starbase 11, reminisces about past adventures, and how his experiences on Talos IV helped him face dangerous situations on Corinthia VII, and on the training ship on which he'd been injured.
