Related media[]
- TOS - Crew comic: "Shakedown" – Depicted Number One's first assignment aboard the Enterprise, in engineering as mentioned in "A Scent of Ghosts".
- TOS comic: "Romulans: Schism", TOS - Leonard McCoy, Frontier Doctor comics: "Hosts", "Medics" – Additional story arcs by John Byrne featuring the USS Yorktown under the command of Number One.
Background[]
- The title alluded to Hamlet, Act 1 Scene 5 by William Shakespeare, in which Hamlet spoke to a ghost claiming to be his father, but "methinks I only scent the morning air". (Hamlet at The Complete Works of William Shakespeare)
- The Yorktown bridge, with its blue highlights, and the graying of Number One's hair progressing from a white streak were consistent with author John Byrne's previously produced arcs "Romulans: Schism" and "Leonard McCoy, Frontier Doctor".
- Montgomery Scott noted that he and Number One only served together on the Enterprise for six months. That may contradict TOS novel: Vulcan's Glory, which showed the two serving together as far back as 2253.
- The other story in New Visions, Issue 5 was titled "Memorium".
