For the mirror universe counterpart, see Cavit (mirror).

Lieutenant Commander Aaron Cavit (also known as John Cavit) was a male human Starfleet officer who lived during the 24th century.

History[]

Cavit fought in the Federation-Cardassian War. (VOY novella: The Badlands, Part III)

In 2358, Cavit served aboard the USS Kingston, a Federation colony-relief transport. During his time aboard the Kingston his commanding officer was killed by the Orions. (VOY novelization: Caretaker)

By 2371, Cavit held the rank of lieutenant commander, and was assigned as executive officer of the USS Voyager under Captain Kathryn Janeway.

That year, during the Voyager's shakedown cruise, a system malfunction necessitated the assistance of the USS Hood. The Hood's first officer, Dina Voyskunsky, was a woman with whom Cavit had a romantic relationship with early in his career, before an acrimonious breakup in 2359. The two agreed to a get-together shortly after the end of their cooperative mission. (VOY - The Brave and the Bold, Book Two novella: The Third Artifact)

During the mission to locate a missing Maquis starship in the Badlands, Cavit showed a great deal of contempt for Tom Paris. Believing the man to be a disgrace to the Starfleet uniform, Cavit made his dislike of Paris so obvious that Janeway made a mental note to talk to him later about the need to behave professionally even with Paris.

Tragically, Voyager was pulled into the Delta Quadrant by the Nacene Caretaker, and Cavit was killed before this reunion could take place. (VOY novelization: Caretaker)

Alternate timelines[]

In an alternate timeline in which the Cardassian Union did not withdraw from Bajor in 2369, Cavit was the first officer of a version of Voyager which was not stranded in the Delta Quadrant by the Caretaker in 2371. He and Captain Janeway typically had a drink in the mess hall after their duty shifts ended. Janeway reflected that she could not imagine running the ship without him.

He was killed in 2373 when Voyager was destroyed in the Dorvan sector by a fleet of Cardassian Galor-class warships armed with phased polaron beam weapons, which they had procured from their newfound Gamma Quadrant allies, the Dominion. (TNG - Myriad Universes novel: A Gutted World)
