The Academy Institute was a network of 24th century prep schools for Starfleet Academy located in each state on the North American continent of the planet Earth, in the Sol system.
History and specifics[]
One annex was located 20 miles from Kathryn Janeway's home in Bloomington, Indiana. It was well-tended and tidy, according to young Janeway, who wanted to attend, but her parents sent her to rival school The Meadows. Institute students included Vulcan exchange student Shalarik, captain of the Institute's tennis team and a sports rival to Janeway. (VOY novel: Mosaic)
Janeway eventually did attend Indiana's Academy Institute, where she competed in diving, horseback riding, and tennis, as well as earning high academic scores. (VOY - SA novel: The Chance Factor)
In her senior year, Janeway dated Cheb Parker. One night, the pair transported from the Institute to Ohio and snuck into Magruder Mansion. Afterward, the pair was reprimanded. (VOY novel: Mosaic)
Janeway graduated from Indiana's Academy Institute, along with Parker, Blake Thomas and Anna Mears. However, of the four, only Parker did not get accepted to the Academy. (VOY - SA novel: Lifeline)
Tom Paris and Charlie Day attended the Institute in Portola Valley, California in the late 2350s and early 2360s. They competed in divisional championships on the school's Parrises Squares team in their junior and senior years. (VOY novel: Pathways)
