In the mirror universe, the Acheron class was a 25th century Terran Empire starship type, a Terran dreadnought and flagship class in Imperial Starfleet service in the 2410s decade. (STO - Terran Gambit mission: "The Calling")

In the primary universe, this class was operated by the Khitomer Alliance as a tier 6-rated dreadnought carrier. (STO website: Shadow's Advance: Command the Acheron Dreadnought!)

History and technical specifications[]

The Acheron-class was an evolution of the 23rd century Styx-class dreadnought cruiser. Like the Styx, the Acheron carried Terran Magee-class frigates in its hangar bays. The Khitomer Alliance classed the Acheron as a dreadnought carrier. Typically for starships of its time period, a Acheron-class vessel was equipped with beam arrays and torpedo launchers. The beam arrays of the Acheron were targeting-linked phasers, like the Styx had in 2256, but the torpedo launchers fired chroniton torpedos. This class was equipped with a impulse engines, warp core and quantum slipstream drive, enabling it to reach impulse, warp, transwarp and quantum slipstream velocities. Cloaking was not an innate ability but various mechanisms could be installed to serve as a cloaking device. The hull was modular and could be modified at shipyards operated by New Romulus Shipyards, Klingon Defense Force Order of Builders and Starfleet Shipyards Operations at Alliance facilities across the Milky Way Galaxy. (STO - Mirror of Discovery missions: "Explore the Flotilla", "First City", "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")

Specifically, a ship of the class included five forward weapon mounts and two aft. Bridge officer stations allowed for a tactical lieutenant, a commander pulling double duty in the tactical department and as temporal operative, a lieutenant commander-ranked engineer, an ensign of any department, and a lieutenant commander doubling as temporal operative and any other department. The Acheron class could equip dual cannons. As a carrier vessel, the Acheron contained two hangar bays loaded with Terran Empire Magee-class frigates and as a timeship, it was built with the molecular reconstruction mechanic. As an Alliance dreadnought carrier, a battle-hardened ship quick hangar deployment, armored hull, enhanced hull plating, advanced shield systems and gravitic entanglement. The Alliance's ISS Acheron was the first known ship equipped with the temporal MIRV launcher, an Imperial Terran weapon that fired warheads with generated micro-anomalies. Targeting was erratic but the explosive yield large. (STO website: Both Worlds: 14th Anniversary Bundle!)
