Adrenalane was a drug that was illegal in the Federation. The drug needed to be injected.

It was a very powerful stimulant that rapidly increased the human metabolism, while increasing the user's strength, coordination and tolerance to fatigue. The effects lasted for up to 5 hours before starting to wear off. In this stage, stamina, coordination and mental faculties all became severely impaired over a period of 6 to 15 hours.

Addicts of Adrenalane were forced to take the drug at least once a week.

Ernst Metz was a Starfleet doctor and lieutenant who became addicted to Adrenalane and used it for over 25 years. In that time, he failed three promotion examinations while coming down from the drug, before being arrested for illegal narcotics use, having his medical license revoked and resigning from Starfleet. He eventually signed on to the pirate ship Werewolf as ship's doctor, his loyalty secured with a steady supply of Adrenalane. On the drug, he was cheerful but psychotic, while coming down he became a total idiot. (FASA RPG module: Orion Ruse)
