The Aerie-class was a type of Federation starship. The Aerie vessels were used for a variety of purposes, including service as surveyors and colony ships in both Starfleet and civilian service, in the mid-to-late 24th century. (Decipher RPG module: Starships)
History[]
The Aerie-class was commissioned in the year 2347. (Decipher RPG module: Starships)
Aerie-class vessels were designed to have a minimal crew complement, and a certain amount of space was given over to cargo bays. Because of these features, some Aerie-class surveyors were either refitted or built to serve as colony ships. The master systems display showed the vessel's shuttlebay at the rear of the vessel and included at least one Type-6 shuttlecraft. (VOY episodes: "The Raven", "Dark Frontier"; ST video game: Armada II)

Specifications[]
Aerie-class vessels were 90 meters long, 38 meters wide and 20 meters tall, comprising 4 decks. Their interior spaces were highly modular, allowing for the easy swap of laboratory and cargo spaces, depending on mission parameters. Standard crew complement was 10, but ships of this class could be operated by as few as 2 people. With proper resource management, mission duration could be extended from 5 to 20 years. (Decipher RPG module: Starships)
Ships' systems included two 4-person transporters for evacuation, a Class 4 sensor system on the front nose and additional secondary sensor pallets along the hull. (Decipher RPG module: Starships)
The Aerie-class was fitted with an FIG impulse engine capable of propelling the ships at speeds of up to 0.9c, as well as two LF-10 warp nacelles, giving them a cruising speed of warp 5 and a maximum sustainable speed of warp 8. (Decipher RPG module: Starships)
Ships of this class were armed with 2 Type-II phaser arrays, as well as 1 Mk. 22 photon torpedo launcher. A CIDSS-3 deflector shield grid was installed for protection. (Decipher RPG module: Starships)
Livery[]
During the conflicts around the Omega particle and the Undine incursion in 2376 and 2377, portions of the colony ships' hull would change color to indicate allegiance. When assimilated by the Borg, the hull and warp plasma changed further. (ST video games: Armada, Armada II)
