Aeschylus (c. 525 BC - c. 456 BC) was a Greek philosopher and poet, known as the father of the tragedy story.

Legacy[]

In 1999, a time traveling Spock and Q shook hands, but the contact inadvertently swapped their personalities and left them on an asteroid hurtling toward Earth. Debating psychological reasons for the transposition, Spock observed that their circumstances would have made a good thematic story by Aeschylus or Euripides. Q disagreed, seeing no overall theme in their situation, only plot. (ST audiobook: Spock vs. Q: The Sequel)

In 2257, Michael Burnham recalled a quote from Aeschylus: "He who learns must suffer. And even in our sleep pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart." (DSC episode: "The Sound of Thunder")

A starship, Aeschalus, was named for him. (ST - These are the Voyages: Mission Compendium Vol. 1 module: A Plague of Arias)

Other quotes[]

The title of TNG comic: "The First Casualty" refers to a quote from Aeschylus: "In war, truth is the first casualty."'
A quote from Aeschylus opened SCE eBook: Oaths: "It is not the oath that makes us believe the man, but the man the oath."
A quote from Aeschylus opened ST - Typhon Pact novel: Brinkmanship: "For somehow this is tyranny's disease, to trust no friends."
