Aetavis spengleris was a plant species native to the planet Iolos VI.

History and specifics[]

It was a mobile plant with gold-colored flowers.

In the year 2268, when the Federation starship USS Enterprise visited Iolos, amateur botanist Hikaru Sulu collected samples of the plant and brought them aboard the ship. At one point, attracted by their warmth, the plants went after Spock and Leonard McCoy.

McCoy recalled the incident later that year, following the ship's first visit to Midgwis. After some experiments he was running in his medical laboratory were found inexpliqably wrecked, he wondered if one of the plant's vines or tentacles might have managed to reach into the lab. (TOS novel: Ghost-Walker)
