In the mirror universe, an agony phaser quad cannon was a Terran weapon technology, a directed energy weapons emitter installed on Terran Empire starships. Such a cannon fired four pulses of phaser energy simultaneously at a target, dealing a high amount of damage. As a quad cannon, it had a 45° firing arc. Unlike baseline phasers, agony phaser space weapons had a chance of briefly disabling enemy targets and caused damage-over-time. In the 25th century, these cannons usually fired orange pulses. History and specifics[]

The ISS Adamant in 2411.
Agony phaser quad cannons were standard weapons aboard the tier 6 Adamant-class heavy raider of Imperial Starfleet in the mirror universe in the 2410s decade. This class was duplicated by the Federation in the primary universe for Starfleet and Khitomer Alliance use. (STO website: Shadow's Advance: The 12th Anniversary Terran Bundle!)
Like prime universe phasers, these cannons fired orange-colored bolts and were available with different ratings of advancement, ranging from unrated to mark XV. These cannons could be modified by personnel to improve accuracy, critical severity, critical chance and damage output. Aboard starships, agony phaser quad cannons could be slotted in fore emplacements only, like regular cannons, dual cannons and dual heavy cannons but unlike turrets. For increased combat effectiveness, either the agony phaser quad cannons or the prime phaser quad cannons could be paired cloaking device and quantum warhead module to form a stealth fighter set.
