The Ahwahnee class was a 25th century Federation starship type, a tier 6-rated command carrier class derived from the 24th century Cheyenne-class heavy cruiser[2], in Starfleet and Khitomer Alliance service from the 2410s decade. (STO website: Both Worlds: 14th Anniversary Bundle!)

The USS Ahwahnee was an evolution of the 2360s-era Cheyenne hull and was in service from 2411. As a command carrier, the Ahwahnee class combined the characteristics of a command ship with that of a science carrier. (STO website: Both Worlds: 14th Anniversary Bundle!)
In that year, the Alliance joined forces with the Aetherian Concordium due to a multiversal campaign by the Borg Kingdom. The Borg originated from the mirror universe and invaded the primary universe and fluidic space. The mirror universe Borg required advanced technology to counter. Typically for starships of its time period, an Ahwahnee-class vessel was equipped with phaser beam arrays and photon torpedo launchers. It was equipped with a impulse engines, warp core and quantum slipstream drive, enabling it to reach impulse, warp, transwarp and quantum slipstream velocities. Cloaking was not an innate ability but various mechanisms could be installed to serve as a cloaking device. The hull was modular and could be modified at shipyards interfaces operated by New Romulus Shipyards, Klingon Defense Force Order of Builders and Starfleet Shipyards Operations at Alliance facilities across the Milky Way Galaxy. Specifically, a ship of the class included three forward weapon mounts and three aft. Bridge officer stations allowed for a commander-ranked officer in double science and command position, a lieutenant commander miracle worker and engineer, one tactical lieutenant, plus an ensign and a commander each of any department. As a science vessel, it included subsystem targeting, and the inspiration ship mechanic. This carrier included two hangar bays, which housed squadrons of Type-7 shuttlecraft. As an Alliance carrier, a battle-hardened ship benefitted from quick deployment of hangar fighters, armored hull, reactive shield technology, advanced shield systems and flagship staffing. The USS Ahwahnee was the first ship equipped with the fleet power network array. This array was a power-transfer system normally installed on space station.
