Akavan III was a planet located somewhere in the galaxy's Alpha or Beta Quadrants, the third planet in orbit of the Akavan star system. Akavan III was a colony world in Federation space, inhabited primarily by Andorians and Humans, with a total population of 1.2 billion in the year 2371.
History and specifics[]
The planet was orbited by at least two moons and several asteroids. On the surface were several cities surrounded by mountains, floating islands and green vegetation. There are purple-feathered bird animal lifeforms present in the cities. The colonists used aircars for travel, and some played soccer for recreation.
On stardate 48516.7, the Maquis raider starship Condorcet, under command of Captain Rhona Barrows, positioned a dozen torpedoes containing vanvidycin in strategic locations around Akavan III. When the crew of the Starfleet starship USS Enterprise-D arrived to investigate, Captain Barrows delivered her demands to have the Federation reclaim settlements lost to the Cardassians in the Demilitarized Zone. If her demands were not met, she would detonate the torpedoes spreading a large concentration of the drug into the population. In such a large dose, it would cause the inhabitants to experience terrifying hallucinations and violent outbursts. Captain Jean-Luc Picard was able to bluff Barrows into surrendering, which allowed the Enterprise crew to disarm the torpedoes. (TNG comic: "Sky's the Limit")
