The Akkallans were a civilization native to Akkalla, a planet with only one small major continent and vastly dominated by ocean.

History and specifics[]

Biology[]

The Akkallans appeared mostly humanoid but naturally went through a stage they called the Senescence, in which they formed webbing between fingers and toes, their femur grew, they grew gills and they finally transformed into the plesiosaur-like Wwafida, which the Akkallans mistook for mythological non-sentient ocean creatures, but in truth were their natural next step in the maturation process.

This was however widely unknown, for the Dgyynt Gland that controlled the Senescence was traditionally removed at birth in a ceremony to their main deity, the Mother Sea. At the time the USS Enterprise was in contact with their culture, this ceremony had existed since at last three thousand years. (TOS novel: Deep Domain)
