Background[]
The configuration of the Akula-class was first introduced in the fan fiction publication Ships of the Star Fleet Volume 2 by Todd Guenther, as a variant of the Akyazi-class. This gives the Akula-class the distinction of being one of the few fan fiction designs to actually make into into licensed Star Trek media.
Another frigate vessel named "Akula-class" exists in the same era, featured in the ST video game: Starfleet Command. It resembles the Apollo-class, featured in Legacy alongside this Akula-class destroyer / escort.
