See Reynolds for other articles with titles that contain, either by relationship or by coincidence, this character's surname.

Alain Reynolds was a 23rd century Human man. He was a lieutenant in Starfleet assigned to the Federation starship USS Excelsior in 2285 under the command of Captain James T. Kirk.

History[]

He served in the operations or sciences divisions. He'd participated in many landing party missions but had not witnessed a death. His best friend was Greg Thometz.

In 2285, Leonard McCoy recommended swapping his landing party assignment with Derval Avoca so that he and Thometz would be on the same team, allowing them to look after each other while on the surface of an unnamed class M planet in the 12 Lyncis system. During the planetary survey, Thometz was killed by a bearlike creature, which Reynolds immediately killed with his phaser.

In the transporter room, he collapsed and was taken on a floater to sickbay. Despite having no physical injury or infection, Reynolds fell into a coma. Wondering what Spock would do, McCoy leveraged whatever remained of Spock's katra to perform a mind meld, helping Reynolds heal psychologically from the trauma of seeing his friend's death. (TOS comic: "The Last Word")

His rank was distantly visible in one panel on page 7.
