Alan Becker is a Human man, a geologist who was married to Leila Kalomi in the 23rd century.

History[]

Becker met and married Kalomi following her experiences with the failed colony at Omicron Ceti III in 2266. They traveled together to Tau Beta IV, where he was assigned as chief mission geologist for a Federation dilithium mining station and terraforming project. When operations proved too costly, the Federation Planetary Development Council chose to automate the facilities and remove the dozen-member team. Becker and Kalomi were the last two stationed there.

Becker discovered natural tunnels criss-crossed the mining station tunnels, ones which seemed organic in nature. As he continued to investigate, he came upon S'uora, an evil non-humanoid lifeform imprisoned within the core of the planet. S'uora had strong telepathic capabilities which overpowered and dominated Becker. As time went by, Kalomi got a sense that her husband was like a hollow person, with someone else inside. She called Spock for assistance. He came, but Becker brought Spock into the mining tunnels and exposed him to S'uora's overwhelming mental powers. Eventually, Spock was able to extricate Becker and Kalomi from the planet.

However, Becker suffered mental damage from the control S'uora had exerted over him as well as physical injuries when Spock was forced to confront him. He had to be brought on board the USS Enterprise in order to undergo an emergency operation to save his life.

Though Doctor McCoy could heal the physical injuries, Becker's mind was a different case, and Mr Spock had to mind meld with Becker in order to repair the damage. The mind meld was successful and Becker recovered. Spock revealed privately to Kalomi that Becker's mind was so damaged that Spock had been forced to insert a part of his own mind to use as a lattice on which Becker's thoughts and memories could be reconnected.

Becker and Kalomi transported to the USS Hannon to be taken back to the Federation. (TOS - New Visions comic: "The Hollow Man")
