Memory Beta, non-canon Star Trek Wiki

Alaris was the fourth planet in the Koranischat star system in the Klingon Empire in the Alpha or Beta Quadrant. It was the only class M planet in its system, and it had one moon.

It had a warm temperate climate, a thick class M atmosphere and a 17 hour-long day. Alaris was a warm world, frequently overcast and damp, and considered very similar to Klinzhai. Alaris's native plants contained metallic sulphides that gave them a red tinge. The planet would have appeared impressive from space, but clouds constantly obscured the surface.

Alaris was a former Orion Colony that was later controlled by the Klingons. In the late 23rd century, Orions made up only 30.8% of Alaris's population, but the cumulative toxicity of the environment slowly weakened them. The Klingons immigrated in large numbers, along with other sturdier servitor races, until they became the dominant inhabitants.

As an invaluable source of rare drugs and exotic foods, a Klingon Imperial Transporteer had offices on Alaris with the exclusive task of transporting food and pharmaceuticals to the Emperor's household for personal use.

Starfleet Intelligence worked for years to help the Orions of Alaris throw off the Klingon yoke, but they were too few and too weak and in no shape to revolt. It paid well for cargoes of drugs and food from Alaris however, but opportunistic traders were warned that, as a Klingon world, Alaris was legally off-limits to Federation traders. If a ship ran into trouble there, the Federation could give them no aid whatsoever.

Alaris had a technological/sociopolitical index of 999794-75 and a planetary trade profile of BDEBCDF/C(D).

It had a total surface area of 764,537,960 square kilometers and, with 50% land mass, a total land area of 382,268,980 square kilometers. About 37% of its makeup was normal metals, 8% was radioactive elements, and 12% was gemstones, with trace amounts of industrial crystals and other special minerals.
