The Albatross was a Monarch-class freighter obtained by Starfleet Intelligence in the mid-24th century for covert operations.

History[]

Prior to its service with Starfleet Intelligence, the Albatross didn't have a name, only a registry number.

In 2360, after an almost invisible refit by Doctor Scott Heisenberg to keep the ship looking like antiquated junk, Albatross was sent into the Romulan Neutral Zone by Head of Starfleet Intelligence, Admiral Nyota Uhura. Under the command of Lieutenant Benjamin Sisko, the ship and its small crew were tasked with finding information about the spread of a deadly virus that Starfleet Command dubbed 'Catalyst'.

Its mission a success, but damaged by a Romulan warbird while escaping from planet Renaga, the Albatross was set to self destruct by Sisko when the Federation starship USS Okinawa rescued the crew.

Specifications[]

Just like other Monarch-class vessels, a number of conduits, holding tanks and other components were mounted on the exterior hull to allow more space inside for a larger cargo bay. Amidst all these components was a docking port and airlock to the interior of the ship.

Following its upgrades, the Albatross was capable of just over warp factor seven. It was unarmed, the warp nacelle-mounted plasma weapons were removed for its mission into the Neutral Zone, but it did have working deflector shields.

Albatross had four bunks, a small galley, two transporter pads set just aft of the control cabin, and a large cargo bay over two levels. The engine room was located towards the rear of the ship. (TLE novel: Catalyst of Sorrows)
