Sho'Tokh

Sho'Tokh, an albino Klingon

Albinism was a medical condition where the afflicted (referred to as albinos) showed an extreme lack in skin and eye color. The trait appeared in Alpha Quadrant species such as Humans, Klingons, and Andorians. (ENT episode: "United"; DSC episode: "Battle at the Binary Stars"; DS9 episode: "Blood Oath")

History[]

In the year 1893, the USS Enterprise-D's Second Officer, Lieutenant commander Data, was described as an albino by a San Francisco newspaper reporter. The Andorian sub-species, the Aenar, were seen as albinos. (TNG episode: "Time's Arrow, Part II"; ENT episode: "United")

In the 23rd century, albinos were not accepted in Klingon society. Voq was seen as an outcast by the Klingon Empire's Great houses. Despite his condition, Voq was accepted by T'Kuvma's House. (DSC episode: "Battle at the Binary Stars")

Physicians working for Lady Moj'ih attempted to ensure that her son was not born as a QuchHa' while the child was in utero, however their efforts caused albinism and a number of other aliments in the child. After being rejected by his mother, the child was named Qagh by the Orion pirates who discovered him. After killing his adoptive parents, Qagh grew up to become a pirate. (ST novel: Excelsior: Forged in Fire)

Kelvin timeline[]

In the Kelvin timeline, Klingon albinos, such as Sho'Tokh, were seen as outcasts. (TOS - Manifest Destiny comic: "Issue 1")
