Aldea, also known as Epsilon Mynos III, was a planet, the third planet in the Epsilon Mynos star system. It was the homeworld of the advanced Aldean civilization.
History and specifics[]
Aldea was a supposedly mythical world whose inhabitants constructed a planet-wide cloaking device to hide their planet from marauders. The cloak effect deteriorated the ozone layer and, over time, rendered the Aldeans sterile with radiation poisoning. (TNG episode: "When the Bough Breaks")
Aldea was class M with four oceans. Advanced weather-control technology generated a paradise-like temperate climate. It had two polar regions, with surface features including mountains and plains. (Last Unicorn RPG module: Planets of the UFP)
In 3000 B.C., the Progenitors first cloaked the planet. (Last Unicorn RPG module: All Our Yesterdays: The Time Travel Sourcebook)
In 2364, the crew of the Starfleet starship USS Enterprise-D helped dismantle the cloak. In the ensuing years, scientists from the Daystrom Institute visited to study the world's ancient Custodian computer, while terraforming experts helped repair the ozone layer, and doctors came to study the sterility issue.
In 2374, Admiral Telana Kahor at Starbase 416 issued a briefing that described Aldea's current status and encouraged starship captains traveling in the region to do whatever possible to improve relations, as the Aldeans had yet to decide if they wanted to ally with the Federation, Ferenginar, Cardassia, or Romulus. In 2377, First Appointee Radue invited Starfleet assistance while investigating the murders of one of the Federation science teams on Aldea. The threat heightened increasing tensions among Aldeans to elect to return to an isolated existence rather than join the galactic community.
