Lieutenant Aleyni Cam was a male Bajoran Starfleet who in the last years of his life was stationed at the Headquarters of the Allied Reconstruction Forces (HARF) on Cardassia Prime. He was the son of a "prominent vedek" and the husband of a Cardassian female, Aleyni Zeya. Though he wanted children, he and Zeya did not have any by the time of his murder in 2385.(ST - The Fall novel: The Crimson Shadow)

Aleyni's work focused on explaining HARF to the Cardassian population and foster exchange. He visited schools and explained what HARF did, why they were there, and how they were trying to help. He organized exchange programs between students at Cardassian universities and universities across the Federation. One of Aleyni's last activities was that he had perhaps persuaded a Klingon medical student to visit Cardassia and work on a study into children’s health.

Aleyni was murdered by Tret Fereny and members of the Dekreny Gang in August 2385, in an abandoned industrial warehouse in the North Torr district.

His murder was a notable event, as at that time the Federation was planning on pulling Starfleet elements off Cardassia. Occurring shortly before the assassination of Federation President Nanietta Bacco, Aleyni's death was a cause of contention between the Cardassian government, the opposition, the police service (the Constabulary) and the new Federation government under the Bajoran Federation President Pro Tempore Ishan Anjar. The homicide was investigated by Arati Mhevet, when a witness, Esla, identified her Constabulary colleague Fereny as one of the murderers. Aleyni was being pressured by Fereny and the Dekreny gangsters because of his marriage to a Cardassian, and the Bajoran got too angry in one meeting and possibly accidentally murdered. However Fereny suggested that the officer's murder - accident or not - was part of some greater plot. (ST - The Fall novel: The Crimson Shadow)
