Horta All Mother.

The Horta All Mother was a Horta individual who survived her species's great die-out of the 23rd century, and was the caretaker and "Prime Mother" of the entire civilization's egg cache. (TOS episode & Star Trek 4 novelization: The Devil in the Dark)

Biography[]

The All Mother was kept alive by her children, who have been feeding her foreign minerals that acted as supplements, when in fact she was supposed to die off. The children couldn't bear to part with her, so she made a deal with Spock that in allowing to let some of her children go on the mission to save Vesbius, he would become the new All Mother. (TOS novel: Devil's Bargain)
