Alnat was a independent nation-state on Bolarus prior to the time that it was politically united. At the height of its power, Alnat was led by Queen Vaq. She led the nation to victory in several consecutive wars until it became the most powerful nation on the planet. However, she was eventually forced to abdicate after leading Alnat to economic ruin.

In 2379, Federation President Min Zife invoked the story of Queen Vaq and Alnat in his resignation speech. (TNG novel: A Time for War, A Time for Peace)
