Alpha Coronae Borealis (also known as 5 Coronae Borealis, Gemma and Alphecca) is a star system, a binary star consisting of a type F white star primary with a type G yellow star companion. It is visible in the constellation of Corona Borealis, and is located 75 light-years from Earth. Situated in the galaxy's Alpha Quadrant, this system is in or near the space of the Federation in the general vicinity of Rasalhague, Alshain and Upsilon Aquarii. (ST reference: Star Charts)
This system is the location of a number of planets, including fourth planet Alphecca IV, the homeworld of the Alpheccan civilization. For religious and cultural reasons, the Alpheccans rarely leave their system. (TNG novel: Intellivore)
Seventh planet Gemma VII is, in the late 24th century, a holding of the Romulan Star Empire, and a friendly port-of-call for starships of the Romulan Imperial Fleet. (ST video game: Starfleet Command III)
- In SFC3 gameplay, this name was part of a list that were applied to planets on the game map, with random attributes assigned to them. Other Star Trek sources show Gemma as being independent and within Federation space, despite this seventh planet of Gemma's system apparently harboring Romulans.
