Alpha Persei (also known as Algenib or Mirfak) is a binary star system consisting of a small secondary star and a primary blue-white supergiant star of spectral class F5, orbited by twelve planets. It is the brightest star system in the constellation Perseus, and is located about 592 light-years from the Sol system as observed by Earth astronomers.
The Federation starships named USS Mirfak were named for this system.
History[]
The Algenib system was initially charted by the Earth Starfleet vessel Columbia in 2159. The next close approach to the system was in the 2260s by the USS Enterprise. At that time, a closer examination of the second planet by shuttle was launched. (TOS short story: "Make-Believe")
The USS Enterprise-E visited the system and completed a mission visiting the second planet in mid-2372. (TNG - Slings and Arrows eBook: The Insolence of Office)
