Kirk McCoy Alps Gold Key

James T. Kirk and Doctor Leonard McCoy arrive at the Alps on Earth.

The Alps were a mountain range in southern Europe on Earth.

From orbit, the Alps appear to have a persistent glow. (TOS novel: Spock's World)

History[]

In 218 BC, Carthaginian general Hannibal crossed the Alps with an army that included war elephants. (DS9 novel: Antimatter)

In the early 2250s, Leonard McCoy took skiing vacations to the Alps while he was a medical student.

In 2267 the Guardian of Forever sent James T. Kirk, Spock and McCoy back to the Alps in 218 BC to capture Trengur before he interfered with Hannibal's march. (TOS comic: "No Time Like the Past")

In 2270, the main gymnasium of the USS Enterprise included a mountain-climbing simulator which holographically recreated the Swiss alps. (TOS comic: "To Err Is Vulcan")

In July 2275, McCoy visited his friend Dieter Clissman at a hotel near the Jungfrau, "the Maiden", one of the Bernese Alps. During a dramatic sunset, crowds sang a freedom song in the oldest Swiss language that honored the origins of Switzerland. (TOS novel: Doctor's Orders)

In his childhood, Captain Jean-Luc Picard spent much time in the Alps. (TNG novel: The Captains' Honor)

In the 2360s, Benjamin Sisko once took his son Jake Sisko to the Swiss Alps. (DS9 - YA novella: The Pet)

In 2362, Starfleet Academy's ski team competed in the Jungfrau district of the Swiss Alps. The team included Tom Paris, Odile Launay, and Brunolf Katajavuori, and they raced on the Lauberhorn downhill course against teams from seven other schools. While competing, Paris spotted his father Owen Paris and became distracted, losing control of his skis. He ended up with broken bones and had to be treated in a hospital. (VOY novel: Pathways)
