Amarie was a female musician and entrepreneur in the 24th century. She was a native of the planet Talemstra, with four arms common to her species. She had a remarkable memory for music, and a repertoire that included some four-thousand separate melodies.

Biography[]

She was a romantic at heart, and longed for "the love of a good man and the fulfillment of children." However, she was unfortunate in both regards. By mid-2360s, she had a "nasty" suck salt habit (which she had unsuccessfully tried to give up), and she had been married at least three times. Her third, and by then ex-husband was called Nard, a "handsome adventurer with his own starship, and a roving eye." Another ex-husband was Melcor, a smuggler and arms dealer. Other men she'd had relationships with included Frank and Renninum. She considered all of them "losers." She had not, by that point, ever had children.

It is not indicated whether Frank and Renninum were also former husbands, or just ex-lovers.

Some time prior to 2368, Nard abandoned Amarie on Qualor II, leaving her for a "far too young and far too thin" Siblite woman. She hated life on Qualor, and did not get along with the Zakdorns who administered the planet.

Amarie eventually began to work Shern's Palace, a bar on Qualor II's capital city, Torallia. She was not fond of the bar's Filimase owner, Shern, or his taste in decor, but was more afraid of being cast out, jobless. (TNG episode & novelization: Unification, Part II; Last Unicorn RPG module: Planets of the UFP)

In 2368, the USS Enterprise-D came to Surplus Depot Z15 orbiting Qualor II. During the ship's visit, Amarie became acquainted with Commander William Riker when he came looking for information about the business dealings of her ex-husband Melcor, who had been killed during a brief battle with the Enterprise. Amarie thought Riker was extremely handsome; the two enjoyed flirting with each other, and found common ground in music. Amarie told him about her husband's business partner Omag, a Ferengi, and in exchange, Riker taught her some blues from Memphis on Earth.

The following day, Shern told Amarie that he was going to replace her with a multi-legged dancer, believing that the change would bring in more customers. She laughed in his face.

When Lieutenant Worf arrived to watch for Omag, Amarie thought he was the most attractive man she had ever seen. When he asked her to play something from Aktuh and Maylota, she was pleased when he began to sing with her. They were interrupted when Omag entered, and Worf relayed his presence to Riker.

Following Riker's confrontation with Omag, Amarie soothed the Ferengi's wounded pride and encouraged him to forget about his troubles while she played his favorite tune, Melor Famagal, ensuring that he spent a great deal of money at Shern's Palace that night. Invigorated, she thought then that everything would work out just fine. (TNG episode & novelization: Unification, Part II)

Within a few years, Shern's Palace had been renamed Amarie's Bar, in her honor. (Last Unicorn RPG module: Planets of the UFP)

The sourcebook does not specify if Amarie owned the bar, and only describes her as its piano player. According to the book, she was still present there as of 2374, and still sang for Omag.

By late 2372, Amarie had come to run the "Ten-Forward" lounge (later renamed the Happy Bottom Riding Club) on the USS Enterprise-E. (TNG - Slings and Arrows eBook: That Sleep of Death)

In preparation for her retirement in 2410, Amarie sold off the fleet of smuggler heavy escorts she had inherited from Melcor in 2368, and used to amass a personal economic empire. Part of the deal was that the type of smuggler escort would be called Amarie-class. (STO - Escalation mission: "Smuggler's Heavy Escort R&D Promotion!")
