Though Vorta diplomats claimed that these assets were intended to rebuild Cardassia Prime from the aftermath of their war with the Klingon Empire, the combined forces of the Dominion and the Cardassian Guard later invaded the Bajoran system to interrupt when the United Federation of Planets mined the wormhole that allowed individuals from the Gamma Quadrant to cross into the larger galaxy. While unable to prevent Starfleet from blockading the wormhole entrance, the Dominion was nonetheless able to wrest control of Deep Space 9 from the Federation and Amet'alox joined the soldiers that proceeded to occupy the installation as the Milky Way entered into a period of interstellar war. Two months after the initial invasion, Amet'alox and three other Jem'Hadar — Edan'Atal, Rak'tazan and Varat'idan — had become a frequent presence at Quark's, though when the owner tried to offer them various services, the soldiers were not interested.
