Amma is a plant lifeform indigenous to the planet Angira.

Specifics[]

Amma is a hearty perennial sporting wide, yellow leaves that grows quickly in a variety of climates and conditions. Angirans cultivate amma, with each plant able to provide six cuttings per growing season. Harvested leaves are dried on large racks. Its fibers have multiple uses, including being spun into sturdy rope with a tensile strength close to that of steel cables. Its tuber-like roots are also edible.

History[]

In 2266, during a visit to Angira, amma drew Hikaru Sulu's attention and curiosity. In the settlement of Guh, Puga was one of several Angirans who harvested amma leaves.

Sulu, Urmi and Prince Vikram were later ambushed by Lord Bhima's troops while crossing a gorge on a rope bridge. The three were forced to collapse the bridge and retreat, but it took several minutes with a sharp sword for Sulu to sever the ropes, as their strands were spun from amma. (TOS novel: Shadow Lord)
