An ancient fighter escort is the speculative name given for a class of unnamed giant alien attack ships that pursed the doomsday machine for three million years.

When the last of these vessels was encountered, James T. Kirk speculated that it might serve as a fighter escort.

Specifics[]

The vessel was nearly 300 meters long, weighed 65,000 metric tons, and featured a hull constructed from similar alloys as the doomsday machine and with neutronium hull plating that made it impervious to phasers. The hull also utilized a simple invisibility technology that could be defeated by sensors. Its structure consisted of a main core with an enveloping frame connecting two main propulsion units.

It was armed with a plasma weapon that teleported energy bolts near its target in order to inhibit defenses. Another weapon was an antiproton beam. The starship was believed to be able to restore power by absorbing energy from dark matter.

History[]

Three million years ago, Baha-Shan's spouse boarded one such vessel. After the doomsday machine destroyed Baha-Shan's homeworld, his ship and many others attempted unsuccessfully to disable the doomsday machine. Although all other fighter escorts were destroyed, his continued to pursue over the ensuing centuries.

In 2267, this pilot revived from stasis and discovered that the doomsday machine had been wrecked at last, but he'd become insane and subsequently destroyed the science vessel SS Charles Darwin and attacked the USS Enterprise. The ship shortly lost structural integrity and blew up. (TOS - New Visions comic: "Cry Vengeance")
