Anderson was a 23rd century Human man who served Starfleet as a security guard, assigned to Federation starship USS Enterprise in the 2270s.
Anderson and his partner, Phillips, were members of a landing party on Agena IV searching for Commander Spock, along with Admiral James T. Kirk, Dr. Leonard McCoy, Lieutenant Pavel Chekov and Chief Marcella DiFalco. Shortly after they arrived on the surface, Anderson was shot in the back with a projectile weapon, leading to a fight with a party of the native Orgs in which Phillips received a flesh wound and DiFalco's phaser was shot out of her hand. At the end of the battle, McCoy pronounced Anderson dead. (TOS comic: "The Expansionist Syndrome")
