Andor[1], also known as Procyon VIII[1], was an uninhabited planet, a class J[2] gas giant[1] and eighth planet[1] in the Procyon[1] star system, located in the Vulcan sector[2], the galaxy's Beta Quadrant[4]. (ST reference: Stellar Cartography: The Starfleet Reference Library)
This world had two moons, one of which was Andoria, the Andorian and Aenar homeworld. (ENT episode: "The Aenar")
History and specifics[]
In the 22nd century, the Andorian system was governed by the Andorian Empire. The Imperial Guard protected the worlds of the Andorian Empire. The Aenar had only been discovered in the 2100s decade. Andoria, their shared homeworld, was an ice moon. The Andorians and Aenar built their cities underground, where they could access geothermal energy.
Andor was a ringed planet and its atmosphere was blue, with blue-white clouds streaking across. (ENT episode: "The Aenar")
The Andorians also referred to their moon Andoria as "Andor". The interchangeability of the terms confused aliens. (DS9 - Worlds of Deep Space Nine novel: Andor: Paradigm)
In one version of events, the Voldranaii, Borg species designation Species 1881, attacked the Andorian system in 2380. Their ships defeated the USS Intrepid and the USS Nikita defending the system before three Voldranaii ships destroyed Andor, leaving its pair of moons behind. (TNG comic: "Hive")
In 2410, Matriarch J'Ula and the House of Mo'Kai launched an attack against Andor and Andoria. J'Ula activated her ship's mycelial weapon, causing the IKS Lukara to open a mycelial rift in the orbit of Andor and destroying several Andorian warships. LEd by Captain sh'Marois of the USS Hoffman and assisted by Khitomer Alliance forces, the Mo'Kai-Klingons were driven off and the rift closed from the inside after striking a partnership with the jahSepp and awakened Elachi. (STO - J'Ula's Discovery mission: "Beneath the Skin")
Alternate timelines[]
In an alternate timeline where Vulcans had remained a violent and emotional species, Hikaru Sulu and his daughter Demora moved to Andoria when Hikaru begun teaching at the Interstellar Institute in the 2270s decade. During the Andorian summer, Hikaru took Demora to the surface to the see the stars. The Andorian constellations Hybor, Eagle and Bull were visible to the Sulus because Andor appeared in the sky as a crescent. (TOS - Myriad Universes novel: The Tears of Eridanus)
First Splinter timeline[]
In 2382 of the First Splinter[5] timeline, Parliament Andoria discussed remaining Federation members or not, due to perceived lack of Federation support in resolving the Andorian reproductive crisis. Starfleet sent the USS Enterprise-E on a diplomatic mission. Ultimately, the Andorian Empire left the Federation and became friendly with the Typhon Pact. (ST - Typhon Pact novel: Paths of Disharmony)
Visibility[]
Andor and its rings were visible from the surface of Andoria. In November 2154, during summertime, Andor appeared at an angle in the sky above the Northern Wastes when Jonathan Archer and Thy'lek Shran visited the Aenar compound. (ENT episode: "The Aenar")
During a brighter daytime, Andor appeared in the sky when Starfleet Intelligence officer Commander Ortees Sharad returned to his native Andoria. (TNG - Alien Spotlight comic: "The Old Ways")
The constellations the Eagle, the Bull and the Hybor were visible in Andoria's night sky when Andor was a crescent instead of full. (TOS - Myriad Universes - Shattered Light novel: The Tears of Eridanus)
