The Andorian Military Institute was an elite 24th century Federation institute of higher learning founded on the continent of Ka'Thela on the planet Andoria, in Sector 006 of the galaxy's Beta Quadrant. (Last Unicorn RPG module: Planets of the UFP)
History and specifics[]
Called Chekthora in the Andorian language, the Institute was founded by Tathrev Asiva in the 20th century in order to train Andorian military officers how to fight space battles with starships.
The Institute offered cadets a four-year program. Freshmen endured survival training and disciplined exercise along with difficult classwork that pummeled thras'chaaki with procedure and doctrine. Sophomores studied strategy and tactics. Juniors focused on specialization within a particular field, celebrated at year's end in the Tathrev Grand Ball. Seniors earned the provisional rank of chaken and served for a year in training aboard a starship. While attending graduation ceremonies at the Rotunda of Generals, graduates were assigned to their first ship.
Beginning in 2269, Admiral Farsha served as commandant of the Andorian Military Institute. The former Federation Secretary of Defense was honored with a statue of him on the grounds, as well as having a building named after him. (Last Unicorn RPG module: The Andorians: Among the Clans)
In the 24th century, the Institute hosted numerous courses in war, martial arts, armed combat (in particular with the chaka dagger), wilderness survival training, and tactics of starship combat. Starfleet officers often took continuing education courses at the Institute. (Last Unicorn RPG module: Planets of the UFP)
The Andorian Military Institute provided three-week programs in Strategic Operations training (useful for intelligence and command roles in Starfleet) and Exocultural Relations (beneficial for counselors).
