Andrea Brand was a female human in Starfleet in the 24th century. As of 2365, she was Superintendent of Starfleet Academy.
History
Admiral Brand was assigned to her position in 2365, some time near the initial discovery of the Borg. From nearly her first days in her position, she proposed expanding the Academy's emphasis on combat and tactics in response to their threat. (TNG novel: A Time to Harvest)
In 2368, she presided over a board of inquiry into the death of Cadet Joshua Albert. (TNG episode: "The First Duty")
In 2370, Brand and Dr. Beverly Crusher discussed her son Wesley Crusher's deteriorating grades and attitude at the Academy. The following year, she wrote a series of introductory notes to Captain Jean-Luc Picard's personal journal when it was prepared for publication. (TNG episode: "Journey's End", ST reference: Make It So: Leadership Lessons from Star Trek: The Next Generation)
In 2372, the Academy's elite Red Squad was implicated in Admiral James Leyton's attempted military coup of the Federation. Brand, believing that Red Squad's training must have been ethically flawed and choosing to take full responsibility, decided to take a sabbatical from her duties. (SA comic: "Passages")
She returned to her post in 2373 when her replacement, Admiral Pradesh, proved ineffectual. (SA comic: "Parents' Day")
In 2378, Admiral Brand assembled a proposal for expanding the Academy's combat and tactics curriculum in response to a push from Koll Azernal. (TNG novel: A Time to Harvest)
Appendices
Admiral Brand's first name is from the script to "The First Duty," though it did not appear in dialogue in the filmed episode. It has since been used in the Star Trek Customizable Card Game and other sources.
