Andronicus was a planet located in or near Federation space in the galaxy's Alpha or Beta Quadrant.
Specifics[]
The surface of Andronicus featured concentrations of large crystalline formations, as well as smoother surfaces and mountains. Its star was a source of Berthold radiation, rendering the planet uninhabitable without shielding. At least two moons could be seen from the surface, one which appeared bright red.
At some point, a civilization developed on the planet, but it became extinct, leaving remnants of its archive records intact.
History[]
In the early 2270s, the starship USS Lafayette visited Andronicus. A landing party including Captain Ryan explored some of the crystalline structures, but became trapped on the surface due to a transporter malfunction. Exposure to Berthold radiation killed the entire landing party before they could be recovered.
Shortly afterward, psychiatrist Carl Wentworth founded a private outpost on the planet, a clinic that was shielded by a transparent neutronium dome. It was the only inhabited area on the planet.
In 2273, the dome showed signs of fatigue. The USS Enterprise orbited Andronicus and evacuated its residents, including Wentworth and his assistant Andrea Manning. (TOS comic: "... Like a Woman Scorned!")
