Androvar Drake was a male Human Starfleet officer during the 23rd century.

History

Drake attended Starfleet Academy at the same time as James T. Kirk, where the two of them became rivals, and both served on the USS Farragut together.

Like Kirk, Drake became a captain and commanding officer of a Constitution-class starship and was also assigned to a five-year exploratory mission in 2265.

In 2267, when war broke out between the Federation and the Klingon Empire, two Klingon battle cruisers destroyed a Starfleet hospital ship, claiming that it was on a spying mission. Drake's wife was one of the passengers killed. Drake pursued the ships and managed to destroy one of them. When the Organians put an end to the war, Drake blamed Kirk for getting them involved and preventing him from taking his revenge.

Captain Drake succeeded in returning his starship and crew home successfully upon completion of its five-year mission in 2270, but only after Captain Kirk beat him to Earth Spacedock by mere weeks, gaining much glory and respect as a result; Drake would experience further resentment towards his hated rival, due to this.

After Drake's mission ended, he was promoted to Admiral and was assigned as a deputy chief in Security Services. He was eventually placed in charge of Starfleet's advanced strategic weapons research and development programs, one of which was a feasibility study for developing protomatter weapons. When the program was abandoned, despite Drake's objections, he was placed in charge of storing the protomatter until a safe way of disposing of it could be found.

In 2284, Drake secretly provided protomatter to David Marcus, who was working on Project Genesis and impatient for results. This allowed Drake to test the use of protomatter as a potential weapon by proxy, as well as potentially gain revenge on Kirk.

Drake was a member of Admiral Cartwright's conspiracy to prevent peace between the Federation and the Klingon Empire. After Cartwright was exposed, Drake was named Commander-in-Chief of the Federation Starfleet. With his daughter Ariadne, he manipulated Teilani to learn the location of Chal and gain its military and scientific secrets. Despite the obvious potential of the Chal's immortality, which could be passed on via organ transplants from the Chal to other races, Kirk rejected Drake's claims that his actions would ensure the Federation's strength, stating that if the Federation could only survive by following Drake's plans than it didn't deserve to do so. Drake was killed when he attacked Chal, but not before he blew up Kirk's ship, the USS Enterprise-A; his subsequent attempts to stop Kirk before he arrived by travelling back in time failed when the Klingon Bird-of-Prey he was using proved unable to cope with the solar stresses it was facing.
