Angira features broad plains and mesas, canyons and rivers, gulches, gorges, mountains, badlands and arroyos. Badlands and a mountain are located west of the main government palace. A mountain pass leads to a fertile valley 100 kilometers long and 20 kilometers wide where Guh and other farming settlements are situated. History[edit | edit source]
Chaotic politics have existed on the planet for several thousand years as Angirans lived in a feudal state.
In the 2254, Angira's progressive king sent his young son Vikram to be educated by Federation schools so he would be equipped to improve Angira technologically. While the boy was away, his father initiated a modernization program that destabilized Angiran society, with factories that dumped heavy pollution into the atmosphere and waterways.
In 2266, the starship USS Enterprise returned Vikram to Angira. He was accompanied by Hikaru Sulu and Spock, who had been asked to update Angiran star charts, and the Federation hoped this diplomatic opportunity might be expanded to allow an ambassadorial exchange or a detachment of technical advisers. However, a coup d'état upon their arrival resulted in the assassination of the king and many heirs. Vikram eventually assumed the throne in hopes of restoring and improving the Angiran quality of life. (TOS novel: Shadow Lord)
