Anomaly was a planetoid which was discovered by the Federation starship USS Enterprise in the year 2269. It is located in Quadrant 3 South. (ST reference: Star Trek Maps)
It is the homeworld of the powerfully psychokinetic and telepathic Arivne. (TOS novel: Planet of Judgment)
History and specifics[]
Anomaly was a Class M planetoid (also referred to as a rogue planet) measuring only 11,000 km in diameter and orbited by a microstar containing a pea-sized black hole which provided warmth. Anomaly had two large oceans situated in the polar regions, and separated from each other with a large ribbon of land encircling the planet along the equator. Land areas appeared green and brown from orbit, while the coastlines looked unnaturally straight-edged and terraformed. Land was covered mostly by jungle foliage in a Mesozoic stage of development.
An Enterprise landing party discovered many forms of life on the planet. Large, aggressive animals populated the land and oceans. (TOS novel: Planet of Judgment)
A star chart of treaty boundary quadrant 3 South denoted Anomaly as being in the general vicinity of Cestus, Excalbia, and Halka. (ST reference: Star Trek Maps)
History[]
In 2269, when Anomaly was discovered, it became the largest rogue planet known to the Federation, superseding the previous record holder, NBD 287,722—. While trying to explore the surface, five Federation shuttlecraft were rendered powerless by the Arivne, stranding the Enterprise's landing parties.
Three Irapina transported to Anomaly from a fleet of Irapina starships 25,000 light years away in order to engage in telepathic illusory challenges with Starfleet officers and learn about the mental fortitude of the Federation.
As the Enterprise prepared to leave orbit, the exact location of the rogue planet was erased from the ship's navigation computer by the Arivne, who asked that Starfleet not seek out the planet in the future. Lieutenant Bill Hixon elected to remain on Anomaly, having been genetically altered into a half-Arivne. (TOS novel: Planet of Judgment)
