The Ar'Kala and Ar'Kif-class warbirds were the first vessels wholly designed by the Romulan Republic rather than being repurposed Imperial creations. They took design cues from the escort and raptor vessels used by the Republic's allies, the Federation and Klingon Empire. The result was a much smaller, faster warbird design than the D'Deridex and Ha'apax-class battlecruisers. (STO website: Dev Blogs)
Technical data[]
The Ar'Kala-class featured a unique plasma quad cannon which drew power from the vessel's impulse drive to fire. It was also equipped with a standard Romulan cloaking device.
Several structural components of this warbird were interchangeable with the corresponding parts of the Ar'Kif-class. (ST video game: Star Trek Online)
