Ar'hael was a large desert on Romulus which was situated at the Novok continent.
It was one of the few remaining deserts on the Romulan home world and filled in the "bend" in Novok by the south as well as the western side of the Sen'lanarc Mountains. The mountains themselves prevented rain clouds from coming from the south from Brel'kar whilst winds sweeping from the White Sea from Novok drive away what rain may arrive from the Garenak Sea by the east. These conditions allowed for the formation of a desert and left a dessiccated wasteland which was several million kilometers in size. There were some life in the northern and southern edges of the desert which consisted of scraggly scrub bushes, smaller twisted trees, birds and those animals that had adapted to the dry conditions. However, the deeper one went into the Ar'hael, the more it resembled a classic desert which was lifeless undulating sand dunes that were seen from one kilometer to the next. Some, however, were noted to be quite stricken by the majesty of the scene but even the mosed impressed of visitors rarely stay for long. There were a few oases that broke the endless sands of the Ar'hael with large cluster of villages surrounding these areas which consisted of hardy Romulan's who resided in their small towns. These are typically Romulan scientists who sought to study geological forces at work in the desert or the lifeforms that managed to survive in the desert. Some, however, were permanent residents who lived in the desert for generations with their families and were known as the Unsa'avit.
