Middle East 1992

The Middle East in 1992.

The Arabian desert is the fourth largest desert on the planet Earth. It was located on the Arabian Peninsula, mostly in Saudi Arabia.

History and specifics[]

One of Lieutenant Reginald Barclay's favorite holodeck programs aboard the USS Enterprise-D was a simulation of the Arabian desert as seen in Lawrence of Arabia. He once rode a camel across the desert to Aqaba, Jordan. The program also had the potential to present merchant caravans, oases, camel races, and harems of Arab sheikhs.

He ran the program in 2368 aboard the Betazed yacht Cataria as a baseline to see if something was wrong with their newly-installed holodeck. He unintentionally walked into a wall, proving its force field treadmill was not operating properly. The program also would not shut down by voice command, leaving him in the 50° Celsius desert heat until he could find the manual shutdown controls. Later, having Lwaxana Troi activate the program in place of a Tadigean swamp stunned fake delegate Povz, and Troi was able to end a life-threatening confrontation.
