Archanis IV is the fourth planet of the Archanis system and the main planet of the Archanis sector. It was once a Klingon world, until the Klingon Empire relinquished claim to the planet and the sector under the Khitomer Accords to the United Federation of Planets. Archanis was a class K planet (FASA RPG module: The Four Years War), an ice world. (ST - The Fall novel: The Poisoned Chalice)

In the 24th century, it population lived in underground cities and had some surface structures, at least in alternate realities. (VOY - Mirror Universe - Shards and Shadows novella: Bitter Fruit)

23rd century[]

In the early 2250s, on reference stardate 1/9212.21, Klingons decoyed the USS Bohr away from patrolling the Archanis region, allowing free access for a Klingon battle fleet of 20 warships to invade Archanis IV, where they slaughtered all 112 personnel in the research outpost prior to the start of the Four Years War. Prior to 2265, a Klingon freighter crashed on Archanis IV. A salvage team including John Kyle explored the wreckage. (TOS novel: That Which Divides)

In the mid-2260s, on reference stardate 2/0608, historian Mikil Hartewicce moved into Archanis IV's abandoned research base. (FASA RPG module: The Four Years War)

Pavel Chekov in 2268 claimed to Kang that he had a brother who was killed (along with 99 other people) when the research outpost at Archanis IV was attacked by the Klingons. In 2269, after Kirk surrendered Cyrano Jones's stolen glo’meH to Captain Koloth, the IKS Devisor set course for Archanis. (TOS novel: Excelsior: Forged in Fire)

In 2284, on reference stardate 2/2107/21, the USS Cooper visited Archanis IV to meet with Mikil Hartewicce. (FASA RPG modules: Return to Axanar, Star Trek IV Sourcebook Update)

In the late 23rd century, Javen served as the planet's Klingon governor. (Adventures RPG module: Core Rulebook)

In 2293, the Klingon colony on Archanis IV began talks with Ambassador Spock shortly before James T. Kirk's apparent death. (TOS - Crucible novel: The Fire and the Rose)

24th century[]

By 2333, Archanis was again a Klingon holding when it was attacked by the Cardassian Union. (TLE novel: The Art of the Impossible)

By the 2370s, it was a Federation holding. In 2372, Gowron sent a message to the Federation Council, demanding that Starfleet abandon all starbases and military installations in the sector. He cited the Klingon claim to Archanis IV and the surrounding territory as being "ancient and indisputable". Several days later, a Klingon fleet was sent to Archanis and Gowron gave the Federation ten days to withdraw before they began an attack. (DS9 episode: "Broken Link")

Archanis was later attacked by the Klingons. Gowron told Benjamin Sisko that the Federation would have to officially recognise the Klingon annexation of Archanis for the Federation-Klingon War of 2372-2373 to end. (DS9 episode: "Apocalypse Rising")

By 2378, Archanis IV was a Federation member world. (ST reference: Star Charts)

In 2406, it and the sector were retaken by a Klingon invasion during the Federation-Klingon War of 2405-2410. (ST website : The Path to 2409)
