- This article is about a system containing a world-ship. You may be looking for Achernar, a Beta Quadrant system.
Archernar was a star system, located somewhere in the space of the galaxy's Alpha or Beta Quadrants.
History and specifics[]
The Archernar system's orbit was the location of at least three worlds as well as Archernar IV, an artificial world-ship. (TOS - Mission's End comics: "Issue 1", "Issue 2", "Issue 3", "Issue 4", "Issue 5")
During the Federation Council debates in the year 2270 on whether to accept Archernar IV as a protectorate, the system's identity and coordinates were kept secret due to the potential threat of the world-ship's Omega-weapon. During a short-lived coup, Kel-M destroyed the K-class Archernar IV contact station with the Omega-weapon, producing a micro black hole in its wake. Montgomery Scott aboard the USS Enterprise jettisoned the ship's warp coils into the singularity, safely dragging it one or two light years outside the system. (TOS - Mission's End comic: "Issue 2")
Section 31 operative Moore had joined the crew of the Enterprise as a relief helmsman in order to discover the system's location. When the Starfleet starship was dispatched to attend the treaty signing ceremony, Moore transmitted its coordinates to a fleet of Orion interceptors led by Marikk Botar. (TOS - Mission's End comic: "Issue 3")
Once the world-ship's "Heart of God" engine was activated, the vessel departed, leaving the system minus the gravitational body which had been orbiting as the fourth planet. (TOS - Mission's End comic: "Issue 5")
